Why do I keep getting returned to the edit page when I’m trying to post my listing?
Among the many questions I hear at the Member Service desk each week, this is one I hear frequently. Here are some tips to help you while posting on TAN.
Use Whole Numbers Only to Indicate Bedrooms and Baths: A “whole number” means no fractions, no decimals, just 1, 2, 3 or 4, etc. The system will balk at a slash (/) or decimal (.).
Don’t use image files bigger than 1MB: If you do, the upload speed of your computer may cause a problem. The size of the photo files you’ll receive from most photographers is 5Mb to 10Mb. At that size, the upload can time out before the full photo is processed–which will look to you like the upload crawls along until it stops… Frustrating! To be safe, use file sizes that are 1Mb or less. Ask your photographer to send you “web optimized” versions—small file sizes with internet-friendly formats.
Use .jpg, .tiff and .png formats only: If your photo is not displaying properly on the listing page, image format is likely the problem. The system will recognize jpeg, tiff and png formats, with the .jpg (or .jpeg), .tiff or .png at the end of the file name. Sometimes Macs will strip those tags off the file name, so you’ll need to add them back in before uploading the file.
A rarer problem is an image file that is “corrupted”: This means the file has been damaged in some way, and cannot be read by our system (or any system). If your image files are the right size, right format, have the format tags on them and you are uploading without trouble yet the images still don’t display, contact us at Member Services. We can often solve the problem.
